Cultural stuff...

Things going so well!

I am very pleased with how things are progressing for the Bride of Sorrows films!  I have met some people who share my vision and are interested in seeing it through!

I so wish we could just snap fingers and funding magically appears, but... takes time, etc...

I know what I want to do, the things we need to learn, found some to teach us, found all the pieces and now need the cash to bring it all together.

I hope to have a scene done by New Year!  What is bad is one of the stores I wrote in the scene is closing down and will be replaced with a new one sometime...  so not sure how that will work out...  It is the second one we plan to film so hopefully no more places change between then and now  :p

What is so cool is the person I met today was taught as a young boy some of the Attu stories.  He never knew why him until just now I guess...  all coming together as it should!  So many Unangax I have talked to say they also feel the call "home"...

Hope your day is going good!!

Creative Writing Group ~ First meeting!

Creative Writing Group ~ First meeting!

We are having our first meeting of the Unangan Creative Writing group / cultural consultants!  It will be at the Aleutian Pribilof Island Association Building (APIA)  on International, Friday September 18 from 4-8pm.

All Unangan are welcome and bring your family!  We will have pizzas and drink and you are welcome to bring your own snack.

You do not need to stay that whole time, we did it this way so we can try to get everyone who wants to come time to get there.  We will be there that whole time, so if you have questions or want to discuss your story there will be time.

We plan to find out the best days and places to meet, so think of times you can make it.  I feel it is very important and we should try to devote at least 2 hours a month to it, though it is an informal social group.  Let us know the best times for you and we will also try to figure out how to do it long distance for those who cant make it to Anchorage too!

If you have a story idea and need encouragement, if you have a completed story you have been wanting to share, please come and meet everyone else!

For the cultural consulting, we have never been to a village, we (M TOMA Inc) were all born and raised in Anchorage.  We would like to learn the customs though and how to pronounce words.  We will also have some information about the films we plan to do.  So if you know an Unangan who would like to be an actor or involved in creating the film, encourage them to come meet us!

hugs,

Maria
