#MMIWG ~ the "g" stands for "genocide" not girls! Get it right!

I was very happy at first to see people using the hashtag #MMIWG!  It felt great that we were finally being acknowledged and seen!  But, not quite...

People are trying to turn the hashtag meaning into something else, something more comfortable for them and that is wrong!

Would you sit by and let people turn the #BLM hashtag into Black Looks Matter? No, you would say something about it…

So, please, ask yourself why you are so comfortable with using the wrong words when it comes to the #indigenous?  We will pause here while you sit and think deep and hard about it...

It is because you are so comfortable with our genocide...  The sad, ugly truth... you are so used to it that you do not even think of "it" as real anymore... and when it is brought up you try to deflect and distract by switching the meaning from genocide ~an atrocity against humanity, to girls ~so much more sweet sounding...  but how dare you!

The insanity must stop! You are not allowed to change our meanings, our words or our voices into something you are more comfortable with! How dare you think it was ok in the first place!

Either do not use the #MMIWG at all and simply say you support us or use the right word: genocide!

And this number was from a couple hundred years ago, it has probably doubled by now...

  1. It's like, "Thank you!" Geeze-Lousie and all the saints--! When it comes to people never acknowledging the genocide. I am glad you have a voice and are using it. Thank you Sea for publishing this article.

    1. Thank you, I believe it is important to get people to realize how they think of the #indigenous as not really needing to consider... thinking they can just change our hashtags to something more comfortable is so wrong!
