Sending Out Positive Vibes....
Sending Out Positive Vibes....
One reason I put up that Red Giant videos was I was wondering for my soulless doll and a few other scenes how to achieve a certain look.
For the werewolf I wanted them to fly across the room. I pondered it for a long time, I doubt I could get the actors to agree to fly across the room more then once for me... :p Even with wires and pads and stuff, it would not be fun to try to capture it. I could picture us being new and having to try it several times, etc. and being no fun for us all! At least not until we are more experienced and can capture what we want better!
For the soulless doll, he gets kicked across the room at one point. I had lots of ideas about how to do it but all involved either risking my doll or my camera...
Then I saw this GoPro strapped to a ball and tossed: flashbulbs, lightening, how you want to call it!! So I am jazzed, I figured out how to do certain scenes I have been wondering about!!
Being new at this, it is all so magical almost, lol, what was it called all those years "The magic of television" or something!
It is all so close! I know I keep saying that but it grows ever nearer!! I guess the ups and downs will be ever present so learning to bounce back as quick as possible is a good thing!! I am so nervous about the dance group tomorrow, it is such a dream to learn them! I have such fears and anxiety about it! will they tell me to leave? will they stare at me? lol, silly stuff I know, but they get stuck in your mind if you don't stop it and change it!
I guess because I am not as social as I need to be or something that I seem not only a strange one but a stranger too... Lol, I guess I keep picturing the day when we can look back on this and smile and laugh about it!
One thing I love to do is watch videos about film stuff. It help gets me back into my groove! I am so happy about it, figuring out how to do these scenes is a major step forward!

CWP ~ 11 Paralysis
CWP ~ 11 Paralysis
I thought it would be an important topic to show what happens in the Creative Writing Process when you feel a sudden paralysis for whatever reason.
When stress, anxiety, or whatever gets you into a mood where you feel you can not write, what should you do?
I am talking that feeling that is a bit more then the normal block you get when trying to choose the next bit to write... I mean that fear that anything you write will come out bad...
I think it happens to anyone but there are ways to get past it!
1) remember that you are creative!
it might seem silly to have to remind yourself of that fact, but it actually does help when feelings get you down. When you feel like you just can not write another word, remind yourself that your creativity is still there even if you are not using it at this moment...
2) give yourself permission to feel whatever it is
I know I try to keep emotion out of my work, it tends to get very flowery if I am happy and try to write! So when you are down and can not write, give yourself permission, it is a valid thing to have emotions...
3) Try something new
A craft or hobby that gets put aside when you are feeling very creative can be picked up and enjoyed in these times when life seems a bit crazy!
4) online haven ~ there is so much online content now that you can surely find an interest that takes your mind off "whatever" ...
Remember it is always temporary, this feeling. No matter how powerful it is, it will pass if you allow yourself to do something else for a bit.
I wish it sounded more in depth, but it really is simple techniques that will get you past it! We can not always control the things happening in our life, there are things that are not within our control. We have to accept that and move around it.
We are usually our own worst critic so be kind to yourself during these times. Do not throw your work away! Hide it in the junk folder for a bit, if need be!

Red Giant | Behind the Scenes of Run Like Hell
Wow, someday this will be me and my company showing you our behind the scenes!!
But it is inspiring!! Isn't it funny though, how we do get so wrapped up in our stuff that we do not see the world around us... :p

I found I was still not in a mood to write so began daydreaming and looking at properties. Found another cute one!! And it is like $5 Mil cheaper then the other one I fell in love with so more realistic... if yet still way out of my reach...

Is that not the most adorable building? I am not sure, it has a certain charm! It really helped my mood so much! I am not sure if I mentioned it before but one of the Trilogy of Terror has a chase scene through a mall in it. When I was looking at the pictures I could see it happening here!
In the first one, Ni Nah No, there are several scenes at the mall. There is a crossover scene with the second movie, Zombie Apocalypse, Unangan Style that also has scenes in a mall. I planned them with meeting characters in the others because it is all happening about the same time. It is why we can easily share the costumes from 1 to another with them playing the same people even :p

I can really picture our zombie apocalypse happening here!
Throw in a few bunk beds and my crew has a place to stay, if needed, for free... Not fancy but until we can afford a separate place it would do... Being "indie" also means "being broke" hehe...
Now this area is perfect for zombie hide and seek don't you agree?? :p Plus with some clever alterations it can pass as the hospital too with that floor... Those doors at the end looking like emergency room doors...
And who says that a werewolf wouldn't want to chase people through a mall too :p kidding, i don't have a mall chase scene but if I got the building I would definitely throw one in! :p
Plus my short horror film "Soulless" could be filmed in one too :P
My mood is certainly more cheery now! I am waiting until Monday to begin the rewrite though, do not want to ruin it and want to think it out first. I do tend to visualize the scenes. If I can picture it then I feel it is a good scene...
I am very confident that my films will interest people and I am planning international release since I also believe that our major audience is everywhere but America maybe :p No, I think it will interest people here too :p But the ideas are probably more familiar elsewhere then in America... But I think my "Trilogy of Terror" is good enough that we would make enough to sustain ourselves indefinitely so we can teach the programming, etc...
My plan is we make enough to launch a program to get Attu back!! Showing we can financially sustain ourselves will be a key part of the program. I believe they said we were too 'frail' to live on our island anymore... Of course by then it had been stolen and turned into a military base... but it is also why we will be such a threat. to prevent us from ever getting our home back they turned it into a national refuge... Now when we get it back it sets the precedent and indigenous all over America will be using our case to take back national park lands too!!
It is sad to hear them trying to say we do not even exist anymore!! Imagine them coming to your country, stealing it and saying you can never go back... and not only that but you do not even exist anymore!! I have a video planned about it called "Not Your Daddy's Indigenous" because back in the day when they were desperately trying to get it back it was all unofficial and unrecorded. I will show a scene where some towering hulking white guy is standing just inside the door to some govt office and telling them they can not do this. then show "modern Unangan" as we whip out our cell phones, instantly uploading the images to the Internet! Looking him in the eye and saying "not your daddy's indigenous!" and telling the lady behind the counter to call the police as we fear bodily harm!!

I can remember when I wrote this one group who teach our children that we are not even indigenous to here, that we came across some mythical land bridge. I wrote them saying please stop teaching this as there is only 1 reason for such a move and that is to steal our "stuff"... usually I am ignored when I write these things, she was emailing me and calling me!! So, they know it is viable to get our island and region back!! We will and set the precedent for all indigenous!!!
Man, I am in a good mood but also so scared!! I was raped and beaten more then once as a child for standing up for indigenous (and we are talking little preschool age and up). I mean there is nothing they can do to me, they tried their best when I was a defenseless child and it did not work then and will not work now... But I have children of my own now... times have changed I hope from back then!! I am not against other indigenous who do whatever they feel they have to to survive the violent war criminals who occupy our lands. There is never shame in surviving so do not fear you are apart from the rest of us, we are One People forever!!
So, there is a worthy goal, but also one totally committed to bringing everyone great entertainment too! They can co-exist!! :p Lol, in a good mood though... sometimes you need to give yourself permission to be kind to yourself and relax and let go!! Daydream a little (or a lot as you can see mine takes me sometimes)... Lol, I know I am hoping to find someone with a 2 car garage since that is most likely our first "studio"!! Lol, slithering up to them and saying something like

I am sad at being called uneducated, ignorant, impatient and culturally insensitive to the struggles going on with the Unangax people... And this is by someone who is supposed to be "pro" indigenous...
You truly have to applaud the effort though! To try to silence me by saying I am a victim of my colonial education and can not therefore see the brilliance of this guy's system.

Give me the same amount of money you gave this guy thus far (link to my Patreon page...), access to our language tapes, etc. and I will have a real and true system up and running in 5 years (the same amount spent "studying" our problem...) Put your money where your mouth is!
Hehe, but now I have a "history" of childish attacks or some such nonsense... Wow, it was truly a "moment" reading that letter...
How to turn it around to motivate myself?
Remember why I am doing this... I want my Home back, I want the world to discover the beauty of my culture, to be enchanted and amazed at our creativity and resourcefulness... My mother wanted me to try to restore our culture, to show the world how to not turn to hate and harm by living the way we want others to...
Ok, feel warm glow of determination and Hope... Off to try to work on S'happens!! Still have not decided which way the film should go... Two good ideas that will take me to my ending...
I guess write both out and then choose??
How do you choose when faced with a similar situation? I will put it in the CWP page once I decide and show why I chose one over the other... lol, once I have chosen...

Validity of Ignorance...

It was pointed out to me that perhaps I am unaware of how much "people" actually know about "Indigenous Peoples"...
Ok, I for one, do not think "Western ignorance" is a valid excuse (for most anything).
It did not magically happen,
it was planned...
that means it was thought about...
which means thought was given to it
not ignorance...

Language Scam...
Language Scam...
Went to the language workshop, but yikes! It sounds a lot like some sort of scam! He doesn't actually teach the language or anything actually useful but teaches you how to teach those who teach those how to speak... ya-huh...
Why do we have to put up with these scam artists constantly??!! He does some sort of 'where are the keys' thingy... But such a racist jerk!!! His funny anecdote was he went to the river in Oregon and loved it and swam there all the time. He kept expecting the "indian" kids to pop out of the bushes and play with him... really??? Like we wild child, ya dig?? sheesh!!! First off, each time you call us "indian" it is only a reflection of your ignorance...
But it gets better... He went and asked him mom "where are all the indian kids?" and they said there are no more. He said he believed "them" until he grew up...
But he uses basic cheap psych bs type stuff... like suggesting all those who did not come were too busy playing video games while "we chosen few" were here... we are special! ugh!!! He said that twice... second time I called him on it!! Told him he cant say that, he does not know why people did not show up...
He plays upon our real desperation to save our languages...
But this is what we are up against and why I am so desperate to get my company up and running! Our puppet corporations constantly do stuff like this where it seems they are doing so much for us but actually nothing gets done that needs to get done!!
I had 2 of my daughters stay but let them know we were leaving because we were very disappointed in the guy and his attitude. We came to save our language not be scammed!! She suggested we stay until the end of the 2 day workshop and we would "understand" it all then... brother!! I told her point blank that nothing the racist guy said I wanted to hear! She suggested if I told him his comment was inappropriate he would not use it again. I said he should never have used it in the first place!
I said there is nothing he has to teach that I want to learn!
Brother!
They have a meeting every Thursday and record it but wont put it up because they need to blah blah blah... I said it would be very fun to see the classroom as it happened... They grumbled and mumbled about how much work needed to be done... ya-huh...

I am at a critical point in the script and am torn between 2 good options! It is interesting how it happens, right! You reach a fork and have to decide which way to go.
I am hoping I can find a way to do both, but think the way it looks I will need to choose a path then stick with it...
A village has been attacked, it was unusually full because of a wedding taking place. About half live in Anchorage now so the shock of the attack is being felt and they are trying to figure out who it could be...
I guess because it is a side-story and not part of the main horror one... But can always throw it into my tv spin off idea "Buttercream"... think I mentioned it before, wanting to introduce a character not in the horror film itself and my short film idea and combined the 2 together... more will be posted in the Patreon blog thingy...
I know where the story is going but pictured 2 ways to get there... It is now 5am and I decided to figure it out tomorrow :p
I solved one by having it as a flashback but do not think another flashback will work :p Too many and it will look like I had no idea what I was doing I think. At least in this way, I do have others that use flashbacks to tell differing viewpoints in another story. But I dont think a horror film should have more then one... But then leaves me having to choose how to tell the next part.
It is so different to my BOS stuff, that I thought off for years before writing it down and also dong the trilogy of terror... That was easy, though I think I will go back over the scripts after finishing this one to see if I can do the scenes I picture. I think most can be done though.

I cant wait to begin filming it! Though there is a ton to do before that happens. I love how it is going and think it will both entertain and scare you! Still need to get musicians and work on the music, but that will happen soon. I want to create a new horror sound! I can picture the sound but not describe it so will need one who can understand grunts and a lot of "like, you know" :p
How often does your creative drive keep you up all night?

I am at a critical point in the script and am torn between 2 good options! It is interesting how it happens, right! You reach a fork and have to decide which way to go.
I am hoping I can find a way to do both, but think the way it looks I will need to choose a path then stick with it...

Bride of Sorrows
I was thinking about the project as a whole. I think it will be interesting and capture the imagination of everyone! I can see it in my head, ever have such a great idea/vision? I guess because life was hard I created this whole idea to distract me.

I think things do happen for a reason... I used to be so upset at how hard funding was and this was before I had the whole idea, this was for the first novel. I guess it is hard to express the huge image in your mind in a few sentences! And there are so many people who deserve the chance, I can imagine it is so hard to choose! I used to be upset, then resigned to failure. But then I realized I can actually do it myself.
I had said my experience of raising the girls with no money taught me to work with little to no budget. Now I realize I can show how resourceful I am. I have the creativity and perseverance to finish it. I think because I tend to think "big picture" it scares people.
Lol, truly, my first idea was about $22 million but that included a place for the cast/crew to live as we did this project. It included a workshop from a makeup school to train us right so it all looked good. I had a lot of huge up front costs, but most were "one time" ones. Like the building. I explained I needed one to show stability since we are very new at this and need to raise confidence. I said it would be a good investment and wanted the building paid in full to give my cast and crew the confidence we were going to do this and not just dream it. The costuming would be a huge cost but it would be used in the trilogy of horror I have planed plus the TV series as well so would pay for itself over time.
Strangely enough, no funding :p
But I decided to write the first novel but then got the trilogy film idea. I love it. I thought that would amaze and interest them. Except I guess the lack of experience scared them off still...
Then I got the idea to do a low budget movie to show I can actually do this. I think it was meant to be in a way. I have learned so, so much this past year! This S'happens was not a part of the whole Bride of Sorrows series, it was out of my comfort zone. But I learned so much doing it!
I felt so good about it, that I can do this on my own that I even wrote my funders saying that they gave me hope when I needed it but now I can stand on my own feet and do it. Not that I would turn down the funding, but it did help keep me optimistic about the project when I began doubting everything! Truly, I hope they read this and know it meant so much to me! But I am going to be ok now! Gathering everything for the business loan still, but soon!!
I mentioned in another blog about the "low budget filming" and how that has really helped me out. I am serious about that, I think every indie Director who is struggling with finance should write one.
Guideline for Low Budget Filming
- Write with the resources you have today in mind
- Be ruthless in cutting scenes that are super good but not do-able today
- Network for crew and equipment!
- practice the DIY stuff so it looks professional
Writing the script to fit what you have today is kind of hard. Imagination is what helps picture the scenes and it is not always easy to tame it. If you have a super cool scene save it for when you have both the experience to make it look as good as you picture it and the resources needed!
Short vs Feature ~on this, I am not sure... I would say go with the one you feel the most about. A short film is a good way to show your style to others. There are a lot of shorts out there nowadays but it is NOT case of "flooding the market". Instead, it helps generate the interest and encourage others to try that boosts the sales and makes the companies produce better stuff at lower costs! So it is a very good thing that 'shorts' are so popular now! Maybe it is a bit of snob appeal, the wanting to do a feature instead. You know, that whole I am going to make a real movie! :p
I already posted about ruthlessness in editing...
Networking is a great idea! But it is true, instead of asking for free help, offer free/cheap help instead! Showing your personality is not too annoying, that you can work with others and do a decent job will make them remember you for when you put out a call for crew... They say that is the main benefit of film school is to make those connections and knowing most will be in some soft of profession rather then indie capacity... But with people wanting to create shorts and Vlog, opportunities abound to network...
So, instead of learning the special effects by a well known school, I am doing it on my own. It is not a bad thing by any means, though I would have preferred the classroom! It helps it sink in when you make mistakes since you can not afford to make them twice! hehe, so you retain it and your mind begins to think of ways to do it better. Seeing some of the ones on Youtube, it can look amazing! I guess with all things, practice and heart is all it takes...

It really drives me kind of crazy! While it is interesting it is also outrageous!!
It is film archives "documenting" Alaska history. She even mentions when watching the films if it is reality or someone's version of what Alaska should be. I submit that as a war criminal herself, living off the profits of stolen lands, cultures, etc. that she is creating a 'false reality' that only tells their story as they want to pretend it happened.
Now, this is not me being mean. Look through all those old accounts and they will say the same sort of bs that they all say when "discovering" this hemisphere
Suppose I go to your country, is every single inch covered by housing and buildings? Does that mean there is "nothing" there? They show a few seconds of natives dancing but what they do not say is that they are still able to dance after having been raped, murdered, tortured, etc by war criminals stealing the land!! Oh, forgive me... they "bought" it from another country who was also here mugging the people...
Basically lies to convince yourself it is "ok" to be here stealing our "stuff"... I know they expect us to act all crazy and angry, etc. But I plan to humanize us in their eyes so they see us as actual people. It IS crazy that it must be done but that is reality as they force it upon us.
She talks of some show where 2 white guys "talk"... I mean yes, please just ignore us completely and pretend we do not exist!!
It is why it is so important to get my projects up and running! You really need to see our humor, our imagination, our creativity!!
I have been playing with the little Sony Handycam I have (it has no external audio slot and I guess I film too far away for good audio!) so will upload something soon... I was thinking of what I could do now... all of my intro ideas require sound... I think I will get one that attaches to my computer maybe... that will allow me to do it from my desk here where I plan a lot of them!

World Pulse Blog I was a part of this community and enjoyed it. It helped find my "online voice"... Lots of old blogs there... enjoy! I was thinking how it is strange how it feels like so much has changed yet so little too!!
But on the plus side, I have a great scene in mind for the S'happens! Hope I can figure out if it is doable! i make sure they are all doable right now but also hope to "upgrade" in post production too! I think it is a fascinating time, to develop it and pray it gets to filming this summer! I am pretty sure we will though! lol, found out one of my actors is out of town, yikes! But I am sure he will come back for the few weeks of shooting so should be good! It is good to try something new, so wish him well n his journey!
Oh man, just remembered more exciting culture stuff! We are having a workshop of our language this weekend... I dont know why they did not hire a linguist to learn the languages and do them like they do other foreign ones... Oh wait, yes I do... they are trying to see if they can wipe us out in one generation! nope! So instead of a real language course we will have a workshop, better then nothing!
I am excited for this weekend! I hope your weekend will be good too!

Contact!!
Contact!!
Wow, got to go to my first cultural dance group lesson tonight! It was so amazing to see all those young people dancing and drumming. So much to say and hope you realize it was such a soul-enriching moment for me!
The guy was not there so we did not practice any dances but it was fun to watch!
I think my culture is amazing and love being able to share it with you (or a sci fi version of it as I lean more toward steam punk :p )
There was a lot of young ones at the practice. it would have been so cute to see them in the outfits like in the picture!
That picture is taken from a video about violence against native woman, it is a bit sad they do not mention who is targeting them... Instead of educating woman how not to be raped, lets teach the white men not to rape in the first place... just saying...
These hats are so cool, you should really see one up close! Living in a quiet place you have lots of time to create images of great beauty and function!
Hopefully this will be one day:

I am enjoying this blog and want you to too! I hope to make it interesting and do my best to show how I go about my actual writing. It can only get better!! I am really excited to share my creating the short horror film Soulless with you! I hope other indie directors will do a version of it too. I think the variations will be interesting. Each director has their own style and vision and I thought it would be fun to have other newbs create it along with me...
S'happens is coming along nicely too! Still need to practice the scars and wounds a bit and the transformation! But got it where I believe I can create a good film and hopefully scare ya a bit too! :p
I am not supporting anyone financially yet, but someday...
It was mostly for the Soulless short film since that will be completed before S'happens I am sure! My first goal is for the upgrade equipment that I have mentioned before. On that front, I think I have a shot at one artist award I am trying for. Wish me luck! I wont hear until June though I think, so lots of waiting and hoping and wishing before I find out... :p
Some I tried for just to dare myself to try! I really encourage everyone to enter contests and such. Of course, read the fine print and make sure they wont get the rights to your story or something like that! But it takes a bit of courage to believe in yourself enough to try. You really do need to believe in yourself! It all starts with you, your art is fueled by your imagination and creativity and trust you can do it!
Man though, today could not write. I think we all get that weird mood where you just can not come up with something "good". Where the ideas seem more blah then interesting! I think half is being way hard on ourselves and half is it probably needs to be scraped... for S'happens, was getting us past that encounter but each attempt seemed either too hard to create the effects or just plain goofy. I do get goofy ideas but want this more Horror then comedy! I think some comedy is ok, I have some in places but carefully chosen... I think I have mentioned it before a few times where I want to get these goofy ideas out of my system... But probably always will pop into my head. I will be filming a few of them in S'happens behind the scenes because they are funny and interesting a bit but dont fit the movie itself. It is hard to force yourself to cut stuff you like. But when I doubt it, I go watch some pro tips and they usually talk me into doing the hard edit!
I will probably write the next scene for Soulless soon. It is in the back of my mind so soon I hope! Really want to do this next S'happens scene though. they escape the werewolf, I think I already mentioned they go to find it before it can transform but it is very late when they finally catch up to it... They survive, barely. Now to regroup and hunt! hehe..
So, last thoughts, if you want to and can afford it, please do help out. But dont worry, if you cant now I will probably crowdfund Soulless once it is filmed and in post and you can help then!

Creative Writing Process ~10 Soulless Script start..
Creative Writing Process ~10 Soulless Script start...
Here is my opening scene, it depends heavily on sound effects. I think this is just under a minute film time, a few blinks then she enters and then turns and holds up the mirror. It is hard going from Jarte (my word program) to here (Blogger) for some reason, lost all formatting... First hint he is a doll is he never looks around...
I am really curious how everyone else pictured their opening scene! I am having trouble trying to describe the sound I can picture. A "heartbeat in a jar" is a good way, I guess.

But this kind of sharp tang with the heartbeat... does that make sense? if you have audio equipment, feel free to try to create it! :p Maybe slow the heart a bit more or make it not so regular?? will be fun trying to create the sound I picture!
Soulless short film
Opening Scene
INT vintage shop, morning
This scene is to establish the mood for these shorts. We can see a blurry shop type place, looking from behind a counter. No idea why we are here or even where here is. We can hear his thoughts as he regains consciousness.
Room darker to lighter but never in focus. As he begins to panic we can hear his heart begin to beat. It has a sound like in a jar~ sort of a 'ting' sound like running a finger on the rim of a water glass)
His heart now is the background noise, a sort of strobe effect with the vision of the room he is in.
His heartbeat goes faster and turns into the jarring jangle of the door bell as the lady enters her shop. His heart stops beating as she enters.
We can barely see still, a big haired blond comes into view as she puts her stuff under counter and turns to look at us.
She holds up a big hand mirror to check out herself and to his horror he sees his reflection.
Male:
Then that kind of slasher horror film music as we see him on the shelf, a doll. We can hear his silent screams but the lady cant...

I will make each scene it's own page so we can comment about them easily.

CWL ~ 2 Thoughts On Editing The Rough Draft
CWL ~ 2 Thoughts On Editing The Rough Draft
Step 1) shorten it
First thing I noticed as reading it is it seems a bit long for a tale so will shorten it. I am not sure which parts I will cut yet. But each Legend should be a short tale instead of a short story, if that makes sense... short but sweet :p
I will need to decide which parts to cut though, so the beginning build up will need to be trimmed a lot. But I think it is a good way to get started on a story. Just begin writing it out. Even knowing it will most likely be cut later it helps fill the story out in your own mind. I think as you are creating it, you are sort of explaining it to yourself too in a way. I think about the halfway point is where the story really starts, at least for me.
Step 2) lot unexplained
I purposefully did not explain each little thing the spirit and nether realms did. I think it needs to assume you are familiar with the "world" even if this is your first moment stepping into it. So these will not explain each thing someone outside the character did to/for her.
Step 3) Main character
Raven is the main character and I need to focus on her. It is like the Mad Son has a great back story but it will not be told in this tale. This is all Raven. I think I will need to shave up to where her friend got married and she began to dream of "Silk" as more a warrior right about then too... This is what drives the story.
(My old word processor used to capitalize if I did 2 spaces so I got used to it doing it for me. Sorry if my sentences are not capitalized, never use auto-correct!! Driving myself crazy trying to catch each one!!!)
This is a time of Magic still so it is much different then our world but people are used to 'magic' nowadays so it wont seem very strange that we had it too...
Step 4) Sounding Translated
I will try to make it sound more translated, like this tale was in our own language originally but told to me in English so sounds translated... I want it to be subtle though, you don't notice it but just think I must have heard it from my mother who heard it from hers sort of thing... hehe
Step 5) Intriguing
The legends are hopefully written leaving you wanting to know more! that is what I am thinking when I planned it out. Reading one will make you want to read another and another and lead you to my novels, films, etc...
So, going to cut it by half maybe, try to make it sound a bit more translated and hopefully create a thirst for more :p

First thing I noticed as reading it is it seems a bit long for a tale so will shorten it. I am not sure which parts I will cut yet. But each Legend should be a short tale instead of a short story, if that makes sense... short but sweet :p
I will need to decide which parts to cut though, so the beginning build up will need to be trimmed a lot. But I think it is a good way to get started on a story. Just begin writing it out. Even knowing it will most likely be cut later it helps fill the story out in your own mind. I think as you are creating it, you are sort of explaining it to yourself too in a way. I think about the halfway point is where the story really starts, at least for me.
Step 2) lot unexplained
I purposefully did not explain each little thing the spirit and nether realms did. I think it needs to assume you are familiar with the "world" even if this is your first moment stepping into it. So these will not explain each thing someone outside the character did to/for her.
Step 3) Main character
Raven is the main character and I need to focus on her. It is like the Mad Son has a great back story but it will not be told in this tale. This is all Raven. I think I will need to shave up to where her friend got married and she began to dream of "Silk" as more a warrior right about then too... This is what drives the story.
(My old word processor used to capitalize if I did 2 spaces so I got used to it doing it for me. Sorry if my sentences are not capitalized, never use auto-correct!! Driving myself crazy trying to catch each one!!!)
This is a time of Magic still so it is much different then our world but people are used to 'magic' nowadays so it wont seem very strange that we had it too...
Step 4) Sounding Translated
I will try to make it sound more translated, like this tale was in our own language originally but told to me in English so sounds translated... I want it to be subtle though, you don't notice it but just think I must have heard it from my mother who heard it from hers sort of thing... hehe
Step 5) Intriguing
The legends are hopefully written leaving you wanting to know more! that is what I am thinking when I planned it out. Reading one will make you want to read another and another and lead you to my novels, films, etc...
So, going to cut it by half maybe, try to make it sound a bit more translated and hopefully create a thirst for more :p
